Au-delà du regard
Sisqo Ndombe Akisieful, also known as “Lenoir,” is a Congolese painter born in 1985. The gaze lies at the heart of his artistic creation. His painting reflects a reality often overlooked — that of a people marginalized and abandoned by those meant to protect and guide them.
Deeply expressive, his work explores the social and political fractures that mark the daily life of these communities, shedding light on the many challenges and disillusionments they face. Each brushstroke, with its crackled effects on the faces of his figures, expresses a silent cry — a pain difficult to voice, yet one that overwhelms the everyday lives of his people.
Moses Mous, whose real name is Moussa Issarou, was born in 1995 in Maroua, Cameroon. His work, imbued with humanism and optimism, highlights the daily lives of Cameroonian youth and the resilience of his people. Using the technique of sgraffito, he scars the canvas as an echo of the hardships experienced by his community, transforming pain into a message of hope. His work, vibrant with warm colors, deconstructs stereotypes and celebrates the dignity of the African people and the hope they embody.
The exhibition Au-delà du regard (Beyond the Gaze) brings together these two artists in a shared reflection on perception and identity. Through striking gazes and figures marked by history, they invite us to look beyond appearances, to question the visible and invisible scars that shape the human experience. Between pain and resilience, their art transcends simple representation to open an essential dialogue about how we see and understand one another.
