INTERDEPENDENCE
“To be is to belong to an immense network of relationships. And this network is not just limited to the human species: it encompasses all forms of life.” Satish Kumar
Ibrahima Cissé Dèb's and Barkinado Bocoum question today's world view, and criticize the notion of individualism, the "law of the jungle", "may the best win". Is man an exceptional animal? What is the place of man as a living being among the living?
Dèb's represents urban scenes, interactions between fantastic characters, imaginary animals, with intertwined limbs, unwavering attachments thus emphasizing the interdependence of species.
Barkinado gives power to the image of the monkey, proudly displaying his “red tie”, with all his confidence and power, to highlight environmental values likely to inspire humans with a more respectful attitude towards all forms of life.
BARKINADO BOCOUM
Born in 1978 in Kaolack (Senegal), Barkinado BOCOUM lives and works in Dakar.
This young professor of color and fashion design at the Institute of Cut Couture and Fashion in Dakar, graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar in 2005.
He followed additional training in painting at the Alanus Hoschschule in Bonn (Germany) in 2007 thanks to a scholarship offered by the DAAD; in cultural management at BEM with the British Council; trainee as a fashion design professor at the Haute Ecole Francisco FERRER in Brussels (Belgium) in 2011 and studies in Marketing Communication in 2013.
A visual artist, he carefully compartmentalizes his paintings like so many miniatures, elements of a mosaic whose sum reveals his intentions and his indisputable technical mastery in so many ways.
the form that colors with interesting moves back and forth from the abstract to the figurative.
His working technique defines him as an architect with ambition to surpass himself. The lines identify it in the figures, but these figures only take on meaning in the assembly with others by transforming the limits into the impossible.
Obviously, he is a very happy young man with work reflecting a reality in a thoughtful context.
His technique of assembling small geometric figures or recomposing photos seen from different angles to arrive at large drawings is an indication of his quest for freedom and expressiveness.
Winner of the 1st prize for “Africa in question” in 2009 and the Prize of the International Organization of the Francophonie at the Biennale of Contemporary African Art Dak'Art 2010, Barkinado BOCOUM is part of this generation of artists who give new life to Senegalese and African visual arts.
He participated in international group exhibitions from the start of his artistic studies in 2001.
He has exhibited in France, Belgium and Germany. In England, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, the United States, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco….
IBRAHIMA CISSÉ “DÉB’S”
Ibrahima Cissé, nicknamed “Déb's”, was born in Dakar in 1971 into a Lébou family rich in traditions which encouraged him to follow an artistic path. He started with Batik (a technique of printing fabric using natural pigments using wax), which allowed him to train in the design of unique pieces for fashion and theater, and to develop his own technique of color mixtures. Déb's is a self-taught and discreet artist. Pragmatic, he chooses his rare appearances on the Dakar contemporary art scene. He finds inspiration in the solitude of his isolated workshop in Sacré Coeur.
In his works, he represents urban scenes inspired by his vision of human interactions, often toxic in opposition to animal interactions. Today he uses acrylic paint, pastel, charcoal and chalk on thick burlap or mounted kraft paper to reveal his perception of reality and transport us into his world.
Discovered in 2017 at the Maurice Gueye Cultural Center in Rufisque for Partcours 6, he was selected to exhibit at the “Ca Kanam” event at the Eiffage Senegal headquarters. In December 2018, he will exhibit at the Céramiques Almadies workshop during the “Second Urban Jungles Salon” for Partcours 7. A year later, he is part of the selection for the “Fent Bokk” exhibition, at the Musée de l 'IFAN under the curatorship of Prof. El Hadj Malick Ndiaye.
