CEDRIC TCHINAN

Cédric Tchinan was born in 1994 in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) where he lives and works today.

Graduated from the Lycée d'Enseignement Artistique de Cocody, he continued his training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Abidjan. He graduated at the top of his class in 2020. That same year, he was among the finalists of the Kuenyehia Trust For Contemporary Art and he won the first prize from the Abidjan jury for Super Artistic Talent organized by Ysie Communication. In 2020, he participated in the collective exhibition “Carte Blanche” dedicated to Abérique Kouassi, at the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery, then in the same gallery “Découverte” in 2021, followed by the collective exhibition Abidjanstreetact1 at Mucat (Musée des Cultures Contemporaines Adama Tungara). In 2022 he exhibits “Babi est deux” in Paris at the 193 Gallery and participates in the ARCO BOA Fair in Lisbon and Scope Miami Beach in Miami. In 2023, he is present at the Afirika Artfest in Paris, in the collective exhibition “We are enought” at the 193 Gallery.

The artist Cédric Tchinan is a passionate observer of the constantly moving world and the interactions that forge links between human beings. This fascination with the dynamics of human relationships shines through in each of his creations, revealing his personal perception of these connections.

For Tchinan, the line is much more than a simple trace on the canvas; it embodies the fragile bond that unites us to each other. His expressive artistic style is sometimes reminiscent of doodling, but it offers a striking visual effect that highlights his sensitivity and the profound aesthetic of his work.

Through his works, the artist challenges us about the nature of our relationships with others and the tireless quest for happiness. It invites us to contemplate the vast universe of “WE” to which we all contribute and which, in turn, shapes us. This “WE” takes various forms: that of family, friends, neighbors, of all humanity. On Tchinan's vibrantly colored canvases and within the arabesques of his continuous lines, scenes from everyday life come to life.

Everyone can identify with these sketched characters, remember a group of noisy and mischievous young people from the neighborhood, let themselves be carried away by the contagious laughter of children at play, or find themselves in the shade of a tree during a family or friends reunion.

In Tchinan's work, we perceive innocence, poetry and deep tenderness. The artist continues his path with a smile on his face and a contagious optimism which is reflected in each creation. His art is an ode to human connections and the beauty that lies in the simple moments of life.
