GERRARD GABAYEN
Gérard Gabayen, visual artist, traces the links that unite man and his environment, even his universe.
His abstract expression, combining dynamic lines, calm yet lively brushstrokes and subtly balanced shapes, speaks with few words but with great emotion.
An ecologist by nature, he often uses materials from his natural environment that he recovers (wire, burlap, recycled paper, pieces of wood).
In his paintings exhibited in Senegal, Belgium, Germany, Morocco, Switzerland, France, and the United States, he transmits a reflection on the relationships between human beings and nature.
Gabayen attended the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar, from 1996 to 1998. He lives and works in Senegal.
In 2022, he was selected in the Senegal Pavilion at the Dakar Biennale.
His works are present in prestigious collections such as that of the King of Morocco Mohammed VI, Eiffage, the Blachère foundation and many others.
The beauty of nature lies in its complexity and diversity.
Lost in the ultramodern era, man considers nature as an environment that is foreign to him, which has no other meaning than to be dominated, even violated, by incessant overexploitation.
How can we educate human societies to respect the wonders that Mother Nature offers us?
Aware of the finiteness of ecosystems, the artist decides to undertake a metaphysical journey to find answers.
Inspired by music, tales of yesteryear, current events and his own experiences, he realizes that nature allows him to increase his vibrational frequency.
Thus, the works created constitute the pages of a book on the singularities which define nature and depict our relationship with it.
“I hope that the energies I pour into each work will also encourage humans to reconsider their own relationship with nature. » G. Gabayen
